Tom Kusturin is a Sydney based emerging artist currently graduating from the National Art School who expands on the medium of painting by introducing cross disciplinary methods of material application to confront the action and history of picture making. By employing non-mechanical forms of printing to transfer readymade abstract imagery, his process objectifies notions of automatic painting while at the same time humanizes the print through manual, one-off undertakings. Through challenging relationships between material and medium, his basic objective is to stimulate a fresh perceptual sensation by presenting a surface quality that makes ambiguous the very nature of the works production.
