TANIA ALEXANDER
Token VII

$650.00

This work is about the transformation of an object from low to high art.
Through the use of coloured washi tape the work is linked to the craft-based practice of scrap booking, a predominantly female hobby.
It draws on the vocabulary of modernism, and what appears to be a hard edge abstract painting is actually a timber board wrapped in washi tape.
By limiting the colour choice to seven, and repeating them, the artist alludes to the Op Art of the sixties and seventies.
The title refers to a token in a system of exchange, be that monetary or affection.
