BRAD TEODORUK Untouched Fields Left To Sow (Sew?)

“Untouched Fields Left to Sow (Sew?), 2018 depicts two Europeans soldiers from WW2. The soldier on the left has been painted in a realistic manner in contrast to the soldier on the right who portrays a ghostly figure painted naively. This has been done intentionally to show techniques such as scumbling in which paint has been applied thinly to give an opaque and softer effect. It also creates a nice juxtaposition to the other soldier. Techniques such as this raise questions for the artist. What’s do be real and what’s to be naive? What’s to sit forward on the picture plane and what’s to sit behind?
