Liz Peniazeva is a Sydney based emerging artist working out of the Inner West. After completing her BVA in painting at Sydney College of the Arts in 2014, she has been working exclusively in analog collage.

Liz analyses and reconstructs ideas relating to women and their bodies seeking to review notions of gender, domesticity and identity.

Using vintage ephemera, she re-contextualises passé representations of women into utopian, satirical and sometimes disquieting scenes that function to rupture expectations of femininity.

In focusing on using publications typically targeting women such as home decorating and craft books, Liz references and distorts the idea of ‘women’s work’.

Free from digital intervention, her collages are meticulously hand cut, obsessively calculated and strategically composed. Like visual fragments of the subconscious in their seemingly nonsensical and dream-like nature, they evoke interrogation into the female experience.
